SAP GTS Health Check After the Conversion: Unlocking the Full Potential of SAP GTS e4H

SAP GTS Health Check After the Conversion: Unlocking the Full Potential of SAP GTS e4H

Many companies have now migrated their existing SAP GTS 11.0 systems to SAP GTS, edition for SAP HANA (e4H). In brownfield conversion projects in particular, the objective was understandably clear: move the existing system to the new platform safely, reliably, and within the defined project timeline.

However, across our projects, we repeatedly see a similar pattern. The technical conversion is completed successfully, while large parts of the existing solution are transferred almost unchanged. Customizing, custom developments, interfaces, and historically grown process variants are carried over into the new system. In many cases, this was the right decision, as tight project schedules simply left little room for a more fundamental system cleanup.

Once the go-live has been completed, however, the situation changes. This is often the right time to take a fresh look at the GTS landscape and assess whether the system is not only technically migrated, but also optimally positioned for the years ahead.

Successfully Migrated – But Also Optimally Set Up?

After the conversion, companies can address questions that were often deliberately postponed during the project: How close is the current solution to SAP standard? Which settings are still genuinely required? Which custom developments continue to provide real value? Where can customizing be simplified? And are there processes that have grown over many years and now create unnecessary complexity?

This kind of review is particularly valuable for long-running GTS systems. Business requirements change, SAP continues to enhance the standard, and organizational structures evolve. A solution that was appropriate several years ago may no longer be the best approach today.

This is not simply about technical housekeeping. Complex customizing and a large number of custom developments create ongoing effort over time — for example in support cases, regulatory changes, interface adjustments, release upgrades, or future projects. A more transparent and standard-oriented solution can therefore help reduce future maintenance and project effort.

SAP GTS Health Check in 8 to 10 Consulting Days

Our SAP GTS Health Check provides a focused assessment of the existing system. Typically within 8 to 10 consulting days, we evaluate the current state of the SAP GTS solution and identify concrete opportunities for cleanup, standardization, and further development.

The Health Check is deliberately designed as an assessment rather than another major transformation project. Depending on the system landscape, we review key customizing areas, custom developments, interfaces, and the GTS processes actually in use — for example sanctioned party list screening, embargo checks, legal control, customs processes, preference management, or product classification.

A particular focus is placed on identifying where individual solutions are still necessary and where a more standard-oriented approach may now be possible. We also assess whether developments or configurations exist whose original purpose is no longer fully transparent. In this way, the Health Check not only helps uncover technical legacy issues, but also supports the retention of important knowledge about the existing solution.

The Outcome: Concrete Actions Instead of General Recommendations

At the end of the Health Check, the customer receives a structured overview of the current state of the SAP GTS system. This typically includes a Health Check Report, an assessment of fit to standard, a prioritized action list including quick wins and further optimization measures, and a roadmap for the next steps.

This creates a clear basis for decision-making: Which topics should be addressed in the short term? Which measures can simplify day-to-day operations? And which issues should be considered as part of future releases or projects?

The Health Check is a standalone service. The customer remains fully in control of which measures are implemented, when they are implemented, and to what extent.

We also look beyond long-term optimization potential. In many cases, the assessment identifies concrete quick wins that can be implemented with manageable effort and can simplify ongoing operations in the short term.

Why SI PRO?

SI PRO has been specializing in SAP GTS and international trade processes for many years. Our teams are familiar with both classic SAP GTS 11.0 landscapes and SAP GTS, edition for SAP HANA, and have supported numerous conversion, implementation, and optimization projects.

Our experience from brownfield conversions gives us a detailed understanding of the structures typically carried over from existing systems and of the areas that deserve closer attention after go-live. Through conversion, implementation, and ongoing support projects, we understand not only the technical migration itself, but also the issues that continue to create effort in day-to-day operations afterwards.

We do not look at SAP GTS from a purely technical perspective. Our consultants combine expertise in customizing, development, integration, and architecture with deep functional knowledge of customs, export control, sanctioned party list screening, preference management, and classification. This enables us to assess not only how a solution has been implemented, but also whether it still makes sense from both a functional and technical perspective.

For our customers, this means that the Health Check is carried out by GTS specialists who do not first need to familiarize themselves with the platform. As a result, the assessment can remain compact while still providing a high level of technical and functional depth.

The benefit goes beyond greater transparency about the current state of the system. The Health Check also provides a reliable foundation for future releases, extensions, and investment decisions. Potential risks, unnecessary complexity, and avoidable maintenance effort can be identified early and addressed in a targeted manner.

The Right Time Is After the Conversion

We have successfully migrated SAP GTS to e4H — but is the system also optimally positioned for the years ahead?

Our SAP GTS Health Check creates transparency within just a few days and highlights concrete opportunities for cleanup, standardization, and further development.

Have you completed your SAP GTS conversion and would like to understand how close to standard and future-ready your current system really is? In an initial, no-obligation discussion, we can jointly assess which GTS areas are most relevant for a Health Check and what scope would be appropriate for your system landscape.
