Agentic AI in Product Stewardship: SI PRO Tests AI Solutions from 3E

Artificial intelligence is developing at a rapid pace. New models and applications are also opening up significant potential in Product Stewardship — from faster research into regulatory requirements to support with complex classification and compliance processes.

At the same time, this development raises legitimate questions: How reliable are AI-generated results? How can data protection, information security, and traceability be ensured? And which decisions may be supported by AI in the future, while still remaining the responsibility of qualified professionals?

For SI PRO, one thing is therefore clear: AI can and should meaningfully support and further enhance day-to-day work in Product Stewardship — but it should not replace the expertise and responsibility of qualified professionals.

Strategic Partnership with 3E

As part of the 3E AI Partner Launch, SI PRO is currently testing new agentic AI solutions from 3E. The aim of the collaboration is to evaluate the tools at an early stage under realistic conditions, identify practical use cases, and support their further development through structured feedback.

Unlike traditional AI applications, agentic AI systems can handle multi-step tasks, incorporate different information sources or tools, and independently execute individual steps within a defined process. This creates interesting potential applications, particularly in regulatory environments — provided that data sources, results, and responsibilities remain transparent.

The current testing phase focuses on the following three 3E AI tools:

• Reg Intel MCP: Provision and structured use of regulatory information by AI agents
• Regulatory Agent: Support for regulatory questions and compliance workflows
• DG/GHS Classification MCP: Support for tasks related to dangerous goods and GHS classification

The collaboration with 3E is characterized by a constructive exchange. Regular coordination and the direct incorporation of SI PRO’s feedback provide a strong foundation for the further development of the solutions.

Learning from Concrete Use Cases

The collaboration is designed as an iterative development and learning process. To this end, SI PRO is collecting concrete use cases from Product Stewardship practice and examining questions such as:

• Which activities can agentic AI actually make more time-efficient?
• How precise and traceable are the results provided?
• What data and technical or regulatory framework conditions are required?
• Where is expert review and decision-making still necessary?
• How could such solutions eventually be integrated into existing processes and system landscapes?

The test results and experiences are documented in a structured manner and discussed regularly with 3E. These short feedback cycles are intended to help align the solutions closely with the requirements of their future users.

AI as an Assistant, Not a Replacement

Product Stewardship combines regulatory knowledge with the assessment of substance and product data, company-specific processes, and far-reaching compliance decisions. These tasks require experience, contextual understanding, and professional judgment. Agentic AI can support professionals, for example, with information gathering, structuring large volumes of data, or preparing assessments. However, professional validation and responsibility for the final outcome remain with the human expert.

From SI PRO’s perspective, the greatest benefit therefore lies in the interaction between AI and professionals:

• AI supports research, data preparation, and recurring tasks. The professional assesses the context, reviews the result, and makes the responsible decision.

Advancing Product Stewardship Responsibly

By participating in the 3E AI Partner Launch, SI PRO aims not only to observe the development of new technologies, but to actively help shape them from a user perspective. The key consideration is not merely what is technically possible, but what can be used in a regulated corporate environment in a professionally sound, secure, and responsible manner.

The current testing phase is intended to demonstrate where agentic AI can already provide tangible added value for Product Stewardship and SAP-related compliance processes today — and which prerequisites still need to be established.

Based on the experience gained, SI PRO is also working on potential consulting services to support the targeted use of these AI tools in customer projects. This is intended to make future projects even more effective — from identifying suitable use cases to the professionally sound and responsible integration of the solutions into existing compliance processes.

In this way, SI PRO contributes to the development of AI solutions that reduce the workload for professionals, support well-founded decisions, and sustainably improve the quality of regulatory processes.
